7 Tips to keep your Gut healthy:
Here are a few tips that will help you maintain your gut health throughout the festive season. Have fun but take care of your digestive health as well.
- Drink Water, Stay Hydrated: It’s not uncommon during these times to forget to drink water in the first place. It is essential to avoid dehydration to keep your gut health good going. Water in the colon creates softer, bulkier stool that makes them pass through more easily. Drinking water throughout the day is the best way to get rid of all the toxins. Therefore, drink as much water as possible to stay healthy
- Don’t Compromise On Your Sleep: As you may know, sleep is an important part of overall health. Less or disturbed patterns of sleep may make you feel groggy and dull. When you don’t get enough sleep, your hormones can become unbalanced, and the stress hormone, cortisol, can rise. This can lead to a host of issues including bloating, inflammation, & stomach pain.
- Eating on time: During the festival season, we either skip meals or have meals at weird hours and this can negatively affect our digestive system. If you want to keep your digestive system healthy make sure you eat your meals on time.
- Skip Smoking, and Alcohol Intake: Alcohol and smoking contribute to changes in the stomach and affect various digestive diseases. To keep your gut healthy, one should include green tea, salads, fruits, and veggies as well as savor Diwali sweets and delicacies
- Don’t Skip Exercise: We know that it doesn’t feel like exercising when it is some festival but Staying physically active & working out daily help with digestive issues. Choose a physical activity of your choice from running, jogging, walking, aerobics, swimming, weight training, to cycling which will keep your gut moving and improve digestion.
- Intake of fat and sugar-laden food items: Holiday season also means “FOOD” and for most of us the evening ends with heavy oily snacks and sweets. It is all fun until you experience unpleasant but familiar tummy aches, bloating, diarrhea, indigestion, and sometimes constipation. If you eat sensibly, you’re taking care of almost 90% of your gut health. so ensure you eat as healthily as possible in the run-up to and during the festival
- Manage stress: Managing stress can be hard during the festive season with all the shopping, travel, and late nights. However, stress hurts the digestive system. The stress hormone Cortisol can cause bloating and stomach pain. Stress can also create conditions for the growth of harmful bacteria in the intestine and inhibit the good bacteria. Excessive stress can affect the movement of food through the gut and result in constipation or diarrhea. A walk in the park, reading a book, or listening to your favorite music can be relaxing and help the digestive system to function smoothly.
